How To Avoid YouTube Scams - Beware!

That's right I have listened to several beauty gurus on YouTube that have made their subscribers aware of a YouTube scam going around. Scammers are doing this through the giveaways that YouTubers are doing on their channels. Find out how they do it and how you can protect yourself.

Since I heard this from several beauty gurus on YouTube that are making their viewers aware that they may be giving their personal information to another person.

SO HOW IS THE SCAM DONE?

1. The scammer seeks out those YouTubers that are doing big giveaways, usually a beauty guru or hair guru. They also check to see  how many subscribers you have to see if it's worth their time.

2.  It seems that the person doing the scam will sign up for a YouTube account using a username that is basically exactly as the YouTuber they are scamming. For instance, my YouTube Channel is MakeupQueen so the scammer may do a username as MakeUpQueens. You can barely notice the difference in spelling if you don't pay attention.

3. Then the scammer will ask you to email him or her and give all of your information claiming that you won the giveaway. We are not sure what this person is doing with the subscribers information, but it can't be good if they have to scam to get it.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING?

-YOUTUBER:
 If you are a YouTuber clearly state in any giveaway video that you will announce the giveaway winners in another video on a certain date and that you will only contact them through your YouTube acoount to their YouTube account. This way you know you're contacting the right person and vice versa.  Also, let viewers know that you will not send any emails to them concerning giveaways and will never ask for their personal information that way.

- SUBSCRIBER - If you are the winner of a giveaway only contact the YouTuber and give your information through YouTube, this way account names are verified. Make sure to check the spelling of the channel name and click on the link to make sure it goes to that YouTube person's page. Check the amount of subscribers, dated started on YouTube, the number of video uploads, and click on the video tab to see if those videos are for the person you subscribed to for the giveaway.


The lesson here is for the YouTuber is to be specific about how you will contact your winners and how you will not. For the subscribers that win giveaways, be careful who you give your personal information to and how. YouTube is supposed to be a fun place and its important to be smarter than these scammers.
